The process of making sculptures consists of six steps that can take from four months to two years maximum.

First step

Consists of building a wax model that is worked by hand till perfection until it looks like the future piece. Then a silicon and plaster two-sided mold is built around the piece to be able to replicate all the tiny details perfectly.

Second step

Second step consists of joining both parts of the mold with metal staples and pouring into the mold liquid wax through a hole. Then you separate both parts and extract the wax replica of the sculpture, then comes a process to correct tiny imperfections of the wax model by hand that the artist performs.

Third step

Third step is to cover the wax model with a heat resistant ceramic coating. When this dries solid, the coated piece gets some drain holes drilled into it and is put into an oven and heated till the wax model melts away. Leaving only the heat resistant final mold ready.

Fourth step

Fourth step is crucial, at 1,200 degrees Celsius molten bronze is poured into the heat resistant mold, creating the final shape of the sculpture.

Fifth step

Fourth step is crucial, at 1,200 degrees Celsius molten bronze is poured into the heat resistant mold, creating the final shape of the sculpture.

Final step

The last step is to apply the final “patina” by hand which gives the piece the final color, it ranges from brown, golden, white, blue, green, black, or even textured effects such as marble.

As we can see here it is a long process that only the best artists can do, as it requires perfect coordination with the metal foundry workshop to ensure the quality standards across each sculpture.
